To correct some reports about the situation with the stage at David's scheduled Venice concerts, and to avoid further conjecture, we have provided some clarification as follows:
The stage for the Venice concerts was constructed by a reputable third party company, sub-contracted by the concert promoter. All appeared well until, just after 5pm on Friday 4th, one of the main supporting beams at the top of the left hand tower appeared to give way, rendering the whole structure unsafe.
David, his management and Fran Tomasi, the concert promoter, will be undertaking rigorous investigations to determine the cause, but in the event, the prime consideration was safety, not only for musicians and crew, but also for the audience and passers-by in the Piazza San Marco. Therefore, from necessity, the concerts were rescheduled to allow the stage to be dismantled with extreme care over the next 36 hours, under the supervision of the Venice fire service.
With the helpful co-operation of the Mayor and Council of Venice, it was possible to speedily re-arrange the concerts, now scheduled for Friday and Saturday, 11th & 12th August, in the hope that most original ticket holders will still be able to attend. If that is sadly not possible, a full refund will be available at point of purchase. It is also planned that ticket holders should be able to choose to attend either the 11th or 12th (one concert only) with their original ticket – while seats are available – with no added charges or box office commissions.
