node: luminex of elc

Ik wil een node gaan kopen voor 8 dmx lijnen.
Nou zijn er 2 node's die mijn voorkeur hebben.
de luminex Ethernet-DMX8 en de ELC node 8.

Ze lijken erg op elkaar, weet iemand het grote veschil tussen deze 2?

Ik had een ELC focus brain van 4 jaar oud die een klein (slijtage) defect had. Ik was toevallig in de buurt van de fabriek en na een telefoontje hebben ze hem daar ter plekke, direct voor mij gerepareerd. Ik hoefde de reparatie niet eens te betalen, want ze vonden dat het gewoon niet stuk mocht gaan.

De Node8 is eigenlijk een node10, hij heeft 8 poorten configureerbaar als in/out + 2 vaste DMX inputs.

Ik zou zeker gaan voor de ELC.

Helemaal mee eens (probeer maar eens 8 universes vol LED's op zo'n Entec en je ziet wat die dingen (niet) kunnen).

Ik snap dat dit je persoonlijke ervaringen zijn, maar velen in mijn omgeving hebben die ervaringen exact hetzelfde met Luminex.

Heb ze nooit A/B vergeleken maar weet wel dat de Luminex-nodes ontzettend veel (zeer praktische!) extra functies hebben.

Elc heeft naast de 8 female connectors ook 2 male connectors dat scheelt wel verloopjes solderen.

Luminex kan je via een web based menu configureren. Of kan dat ook met de ELC?

I'm quite surprised that a person of your influence on these forums would use such language, when describing a product from any company in this industry.

I would be most interested in finding out why you think so little of our product? We always welcome feedback good or bad and if you think there is such a flaw in our of products, I would be happy to get it looked at with the utmost urgency.

I hope to hear about your bad experience with the product, so we can get something constructive out of this.

Hi there Nicolas,

Nice to see you're defending your product on this level, it shows a passion for your merchandise: that's a good thing... When I want a decent network switch, I only use the best: 100MBit, no problems at all, and a good support.

This doesn't mean that Enttec hasn't got a wide range of confident users: I strongly believe your market is bigger then the ELC's. Enttec has a wide range of products, and satisfied users, but are not able to fill my needs for networking. No offence: it's just not the quality I want (and who blames you fot that price...)

Anyway: keep up the good work for your own range of customers, and don't take the Bart Smit thing personal, just a sarcasm to express my point of view.

Dear AJB

I can understand your concern about network speeds, and yes there are cases where this is important.
The datagate was designed 4-5 years ago now and at the time these large scale LED applications didn't exist. Since then we all know what happened, and it's not uncommon to see 40+ universes of DMX on rigs.

This has put a much larger strain on the nodes and we have been working hard to make a number of updates on the datagate to make it perform well at those levels. So people who invested in our gear could still use it as the needs changed.
Considering most software now simply broadcasts Artnet to every node (really not the best option in my view) this puts a lot of strain on the network and the 10BT has limitations I agree. We always recommend that people contact us when wanting to use our nodes on large projects, as network design and software used will play an important role in success of failures. If we think it won't work we won't sell you our product.

Our competitors who offer 100BT interfaces do have that advantage, and we are very well aware !
